Alignment Planning
Our
approach to the design of a rapid transit system
begins with the determination of the alignment.
The alignment of the ‘tracks’ or ‘guideway’ must
be defined in both the horizontal and the vertical
dimensions. Consideration must be given to the
community, technical and construction related
issues. The best alignment will be a balanced
response to these issues. The planning principles
outlined here form the basis for achieving the
desired objectives.
